When it comes down to it there are really only a few basic formulas for making money online. None of these are fool-proof and money won’t just fall out of the sky and into your lap but if you put a bit of work into it, you could find yourself working from your laptop in Bali sooner than you think. If you aren’t lucky enough to have a job you can telecommute to a la Tim Ferris, then consider one of these options. Essentially it comes down to this – you can sell goods, you can generate traffic, or you can do a combination of both. Other websites that have dozens of ways to make money online are really just rehashing these formulas.
- Make a website and generate revenue through Google AdSense and Amazon Associates. This is by and far the most popular avenue. Generally this involves a combination of selling goods (by-proxy through Amazon Associates) or generating enough traffic that you can make ad revenue. You’ll have to be familiar with the basics of web design and social media marketing but with all the resources on the internet it is far from impossible.
- Answer questions, complete tasks, and provide information online. A variety of options are available like Amazon’s popular Mechanical Turk, kgb answers, and JustAnswer. This falls in the sell goods category, it just so happens that the “goods” you’re selling are your thoughts. Pretty sweet deal.
- Sell things through the internet. This is a tried and true method but it does take some elbow grease and you won’t necessarily just be sitting at your laptop the whole time. Popular online marketplaces include Etsy,eBay, and Craigslist. There’s even this weird site that sells “true crime collectibles.” If you’re creative enough you can make a business out of pretty much anything.
